Alta Vista Search
Engine

Subject: Re: Alta Vista Search Engine
**I have submitted my
URL in altavista search and have confirmed that my page can be found in altavista search. However it is not even listed within its
top 200 search list.
Every web owner I have ever talked is always dumb-founded, including me, when their site is not ranked, they just can't believe it
but with 100's of thousands of pages, and 300,000 new web pages added every day, well, it just gets tougher every day.
**My question is, will subsequent change of
metas, keywords etc., alter my rankings & if the answer is yes, normally how long
it takes to change.
Here is the problem with your strategy...
Assume you have a long distance carrier site, and you type
'long distance'
and no rankings, so you go about changing your tags, content, keyword density, keyword correlation, file names, header tags and whatever else you think has relevance
BUT
you failed to check for ranking on say,
'international long distance'
'toll free long distance'
'discount long distance'
etc
you have rankings, but you just didn't check...
AND
What if AltaVista doesn't rank you, but Infoseek does?
You change the meta tags to try and get higher in AV, but you lose in
Infoseek...
moral of the story
You need to check all your keywords and all the major engines before you do anything :)
**Am I right to say that altavista ranks the page by robots and not humans.
robots, using a constantly changing proprietary algorithm
at your service,
